I had limited cash when I was working full time and even less now that I'm not, so upgrades or "hey just go out and buy a new one when the game comes out" are not actually a viable option and absolutely ridiculous, respectively, to me. When I build a PC that machine has to last me a few years. I use it during debugging, because I can't afford to have a non-standard executable.Įlaura wrote:I think the biggest challenge facing a Morrowind lover buying a new system right now is getting one that will play Morrowind at max settings with at least 30 fps *AND* anticipating the system requirements for Skyrim. Not matter what, using an image you make from your own disc is probably the fastest and stablest way to run Morrowind with using the physical CD.

Morrowind originally had SecuROM, from what I understand, so YaSU will mask the drive emulator for you. If you have a very old version of Morrowind, unpatched, you'll probably need YaSU on top of Daemon Tools. I've used a couple others as well, but DT is one of the few decent drive programs (Alcohol 120% is good as well). Moving from XP to Vista/7 wasn't really an issue for me, I just reinstalled Daemon Tools Lite and ignored the "this application is unsupported" error. Soon as realize that I googled a little and found MagicDisc to run Morrowind from an image. However, there is an important factor that you might have to find a work around for and that's of course what will happen if you move from XP to Vista/Win7 with a working program such as VirtualDriveManager7 (I use that before on XP).

The way I see it there is no need for a non-CD patch just for Morrowind, because I've used peachykeen's suggested solution for almost 10 years now I'm quite happy about it. You also don't have to fuss around with changing any files. Morrowind will run fine from a disc image, and you can keep your disc safe in storage. The EULA allows for one backup copy, it never says it has to be a physical copy though IIRC. There does exist a proper patch that does the minimum changes, however, using a disc image (if you make it from your Morrowind disc) should be legal. I have no idea why that happens, but it can cause more problems and Morrowind is unstable enough. The issue (and No One confirmed this the other day) is that some of them change dozens of bytes in the executable. If an exe's filesize changes, Bad Things happen (like it not running at all). exe.Īll patches leave the filesize the same (or should).
